Exchange with the Platform Garanti of Istanbul 2008

Can Xalant, Centre of Contemporary Creation of Visual Arts and Thought in Mataró and Platform Garanti from Istanbul, Turkey, are organizing a contest to select the artist or curator who will accede to the exchange residency programme between both centres.

The turkish artist selected in 2007, Cevdet Erek, will reside in Can Xalant during October 2008.

Cevdet Erek Trained and practised as an architect and sound designer, Erek started realizing a series of time based installations with the production of Avluda (In the courtyard) in 2002. Using sounds & beats, moving images & objects, constructions and performance, he creates intense experiences by capturing and reformulating spaces and situations. While working as a research assistant and sound engineer at ITU MIAM, he’s shown and performed at Stedelijk Museum CS, Istanbul Bienali, ZKM, Platform Garanti, V2_, Martin Gropius Bau, IFA, MOMAS, Art Museum of Estonia, Living art Museum Rejkavik and others. He received the Uriot Prize with ‘Studio’ (2005) during his residency at Rijksakademie – Amsterdam. Besides personal work, he collaborates with architects, directors, choreographers and performs with Istanbul’s Nekropsi.
